The Fold is a 3d-printed biophilic lamp that has a dual lighting behavior: from its one side, it emits light that is warm and soft to the human eyes; from its other side, it produces luminance that helps interior plants to grow. A swiveling base allows for smooth adjustment of the lamp’s lighting behavior while creating a playful interface between the object and the humans that use it. Introducing novel means of circularity between plants, humans and nature, the lamp is sustainably made using plant-based, recyclable biopolymers, zero-waste processes, and mechanical parts that are attached without the use of adhesives.The Fold is part of BIOPHILIA, the studio’s inaugural collection. The collection presents a series of lighting objects that embody that dual behavior using optics, 3d printing and kinetic elements in a materially innovative and sculptural way.
